Moyes Ready To Cash In On Rooney, But Wont Sell To Arsenal Or Chelsea
Manchester United are willing to sell Wayne Rooney this summer but will refuse to do business with league rivals Arsenal or Chelsea, according to the Mirror.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd wont sell Rooney to Arsenal or Chelsea.
Manchester United are willing to sell Wayne Rooney this summer but will refuse to do business with either Arsenal or Chelsea, according to the Mirror.
Rooney’s future has come under scrutiny in recent months after former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he had asked to leave the club towards the end of last season, and the former Everton man was left “angry and confused” by David Moyes’ comments when he suggested the 27-year-old was now considered as back up to Robin van Persie.
Chelsea have made public their desire to take Rooney to Stamford Bridge and have already had an opening bid of £23m plus £2.5m in add ons rejected, but Arsenal have also been credited with an interest with boss Arsene Wenger desperate to land a big-name signing this summer.
Moyes has so far insisted Rooney is not for sale at any price, despite the fact he has just two years to run on his current contract and is unlikely to sign a new deal if he continues to show signs of discontent at the club, meaning the champions run the risk of losing him for nothing when his deal eventually expires.
However, the Mirror claim that United are now willing to sell the unsettled striker but only if he agrees a move abroad as they will refuse strengthen a domestic rival by doing business with either Arsenal or Chelsea.
The newspaper suggests that Jose Mourinho is ready to make a second bid of around £30m but it’s likely to be rejected by United as they insist they wont hamper their chance of trophies by selling to a title rival.
It leaves Rooney having to look overseas if he still wants out of Old Trafford and his options are looking rather limited. Real Madrid could be in the market for a striker after selling Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli but the Mirror claim the Spanish giants are concentrating their efforts on trying to land Gareth Bale, while Barcelona signed Neymar this summer so have no need for another forward.
It’s unlikely he’ll be off to France either as PSG have signed Edinson Cavani and Monaco got their hands on Radamel Falcoa. Neither Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund have shown any signs of interest and there has been no talk of bids coming in from Italy, so unless United have a change of heart and agree to sell to another English side, it looks like Rooney may be forced to stay in Manchester for at least another year.
