Mourinho Joins Liverpool + Spurs In Race For Highly-Rated Stopper
Chelsea have joined rivals Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign highly-rated Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to the Mirror.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, the race for Karl Darlow hots up.
Chelsea have joined rivals Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign highly-rated Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to the Mirror.
The 23-year-old has been in excellent form for Forest in the Championship since breaking into their first team at the start of the 2012/13 season and he’s understandably attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.
Spurs and Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on the keeper in recent months but the Mirror claim that Chelsea have also joined the race with Jose Mourinho keen to bring in more home-grown players this summer.
The newspaper suggests that the Portuguese coach is on the look-out for young English talent and with veteran goalkeepers Hilario and Mark Schwarzer likely to be surplus to requirements this summer, Darlow is now believed to be under serious consideration at back-up to Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtios next season.
It remains to be seen how Spurs and Liverpool will respond should the Blues make their interest official at the end of the season, but it appears Darlow could have his pick of three of England’s biggest teams. He’d be highly unlikely to command a first team place at any of the clubs, which could be a concern for the player, but the chance to join the likes of Chelsea, Spurs or Liverpool would surely be too tempting for him to turn down.
Forest are still fighting to secure a play-off place and they would be unlikely to sell the youngster if they gain promotion back to the top flight. However, should they fail in their quest to return to the Premiership, the club would be under pressure to sell should one of the big boys come calling.
