Transfer News: 20-Goal Striker Responds To Arsenal + Liverpool Move Rumours
A 20-goal France international striker has responded to reports linking him with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool this summer. See what he had to say here.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Alexandre Lacazette responds to reports linking him with a move.
Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has responded to speculation linking him with a summer move to Arsenal, Liverpool or Juventus by admitting he wants to join a big club, according to the Express.
The France international was born in Lyon and has been with the club his entire footballing career having joined as a teenager in 2003. The 22-year-old has risen through the youth ranks and is currently enjoying his most prolific season to date, scoring 22 goals and providing 7 assists in his 40 appearances so far.
His impressive form has seen him linked with summer moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, while Italian champions Juventus have also been strongly credited with interest in recent months.
Lacazette has now responded to the reported interest from the trio and opened the door to a summer switch by revealing that he would like to test himself in a foreign league and has his heart set on joining a ‘big club’. However, he acknowledges that with over two years still left to run on his Lyon contract, his fate is in the hands of club president Jean-Michael Aulas.
The striker said:
“Would I like to play for Juventus? I’d be a liar if I said no,” he said.
“I’m tempted to try and experience abroad at a big club. And Juventus are one of the greatest clubs in Europe.
“Are Arsenal and Liverpool interested in me? I repeat that an experience in another major championship fascinates me. But for now I just think of doing well for Lyon, the club where I have grown up.
“My contract expires in 2016, so we must see what the president [Jean-Michel] Aulas will say and decide.” Lacazette is quoted as saying by the Express.
Arsenal are currently short up front with the north Londoners heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud, and with Nicklas Bendtner expected to leave at the end of the season, Arsene Wenger is likely to be in the marker for at least one striker this summer.
Whether Lacazette is the ‘big name’ many fans are hoping for it another question, but the France international is certainly an exciting prospect and would very-much be a typical Wenger signing.
Liverpool on the other hand have arguably the best strike-force in England with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge both hitting over 20 goals this season, so if Lacazette moved to Anfield he may find regular first team football hard to come by.
Likewise at Juventus, manager Antonio Conte has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal with the likes of Fernando Llorente, Carlos Tevez, Fabio Quagliarella, Sebastian Giovinco and Marko Vucinic already on the books, so Lacazette could struggle for minutes at the Serie A champions.
Therefore, if Lyon do decide to cash in on the striker this summer he needs to think carefully about his next club as it’s no good joining a ‘big club’ only to sit on the bench every week.
