Moyes + Mourinho To Send Scouts To Watch £25m Arsenal Target
Manchester United and Chelsea are to send scouts to watch £25million Arsenal target Jackson Martinez in action this weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd and Chelsea join Arsenal in showing an interest in Jackson Martinez.
Manchester United and Chelsea are to send scouts to watch Arsenal target Jackson Martinez in action this weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
The Colombian hitman has continued his excellent form in front of goal since joining Porto for £9m from Mexican side Chiapas Jaguares in 2012, scoring 41 goals in 53 league appearances so far during his two years in Portugal.
Understandably, his impressive displays have attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all reportedly keeping tabs on his progress ahead of potential summer moves.
The Daily Mail claims Martinez isn’t considered to be a priority signing for any of the clubs but more of a back-up option if they can’t land their first-choice targets, with Porto valuing him at around £25m.
The newspaper suggests that Chelsea remain confident of securing a deal to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, United are supposedly hopeful of trying to lure Edinson Cavani away from Paris Saint-Germain, while Arsenal have been strongly linked with Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic.
However, should any of these potential deals fail to materialise then it appears Martinez will be under serious consideration with the report claiming David Moyes and Jose Mourinho are set to send scouts to keep an eye on the 27-year-old in action as Porto take on Braga on Sunday afternoon.
Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to bring in a top quality striker after publicly claiming he has no ‘real strikers’, despite having Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba at his disposal. However, while all three are useful front-men on their day, Costa or Martinez would be significant upgrades and give Chelsea that lethal striker they has missed at times this season.
Arsene Wenger is almost certain to sign another striker this summer, if he signs an extension to stay at Arsenal of course. The Gunners have been heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud this campaign so the addition of someone like Mandzukic or Martinez would be welcomed with open arms by the Emirates faithful.
United’s interest in another striker is intriguing as they already have Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in the squad, so Moyes may find it difficult to keep three top class forwards happy if he does manage to land a player like Cavani or Martinez this summer.
