Arsenal Linked With Swoop For Manchester United Attacker
Arsenal are lining-up an £8million move for out-of-favour Manchester United winger Nani but could miss out with clubs in Italy also eyeing eyeing the attacker.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Nani.
Arsenal are lining-up an £8 million move for out-of-favour Manchester United winger Nani but could miss out with clubs in Italy also eyeing eyeing the Portuguese attacker, according to reports today.
Nani has spent the last seven years at United since making the move from Sporting Lisbon back in 2007, but after a promising start to his career at Old Trafford he has fallen way down the pecking order over the last two seasons and made just 13 appearances in all competitions last year.
Understandably, this has led to speculation he could be set to end his stay at the deposed champions and Arsenal have emerged as a surprise potential destination with the Express citing reports coming out of his native Portugal that claim the Gunners are willing to pay £8m for the 27-year-old this summer.
Arsene Wenger is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer and he’s likely to add to his attack after seeing a lack of depth in the forward positions cost his club during the Premier League title race last season.
Although Nani may not have played a lot of football over the past 24 months, he still showed his quality with a tidy goal against the USA on Sunday night and as he’s capable of playing on either wing, he’d certainly provide Wenger with plenty of options in the attacking third.
However, the north Londoners face stiff competition from Italy with the newspaper suggesting that both Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen on the Portuguese international and are willing to spend up to £12m to lure him to Serie A.
It remains to be seen whether Wenger would be willing to go that high but if not, the Frenchman could decide to offer-up unsettled skipper Thomas Vermaelen as part of a player swap deal.
There has been a lot of speculation around Vermaelen potentially moving to Old Trafford this summer and although the defender has distanced himself from those reports, he is expected to consider his future after the World Cup and a move to link up with former Gunner Robin van Persie at United could appeal as long as regular first team football is on offer.

So a player swap deal, possibly involving some money on top for United, could be the ideal solution for all concerned as long as Nani is wanting to remain in England and not try his luck abroad in Italy.
