Attacker Flying In For Chelsea Medical Ahead Of €31m Move, Personal Terms Agreed

Juan Cuadrado is due to fly-in to London over the next 24 hours to undergo a medical with Chelsea this weekend after the Blues agreed a€31m deal with Fiorentina

With the January transfer window coming to a close, managers are frantically trying to tie-up those late deals and strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close in on the signing of Man Utd target Juan Cuadrado….

Juan Cuadrado is due to fly-in to London over the next 24 hours to undergo a medical with Chelsea this weekend after the Blues agreed a €31m deal with Fiorentina that will see Mohamed Salah head to Italy on loan, according to reports.

The Blues have been strongly linked with Cuadrado in recent weeks with Jose Mourinho identifying him as a potential replacement for want-away attacker Andre Schurrle, but the West Londoners have so far been reluctant to meet Fiorentina’s €35m (£26.2m) asking price.

Speculation earlier this week suggested that Manchester United would try and hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Cuadrado with Louis van Gaal willing to offer Fiorentina Adnan Januzaj as part exchange for the Colombian international.

However, Chelsea are now on the verge of sealing a deal for the versatile attacker with the Evening Standard one of several media outlets who are reporting that the Blues have struck a deal with Fiorentina that will see them pay €31m (£23.3m) and give them Mohamed Salah on loan for the rest of the season.

The newspaper claims that Cuadrado is due to arrive in England on Saturday to undergo his medical and with personal terms already agreed, the 26-year-old should become a Chelsea player over the weekend.

He won’t be registered in time to be eligible to face Manchester City on Saturday evening, but he will be able to play in the Champions League this season which means he’ll be available to face Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 tie.

In order to fund the purchase of Cuadrado, Chelsea will sell Andre Schurrle with the Standard suggesting that the 24-year-old is set for a £27m move to Wolfsburg.

Schurrle has struggled to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s first team plans on a regular basis this season but is now heading back to his homeland and is due to travel to Germany today to undergo his medical.

So it looks like Mourinho is set to complete yet more impressive transfer dealings as he’ll ship out two players he doesn’t rate and bring in an attacker who will fit in with his hard-working philosophy.

Cuadrado is predominantly a right winger but is capable of playing anywhere across the front three positions and can even play at right-back, so his versatility is sure to have appealed to Mourinho.
