Man City vs Chelsea: An early betting preview ahead of Sunday’s huge game

An early betting preview of this weekend’s huge Premier League clash between Manchester City and Chelsea at the Etihad stadium

Manchester City will look to take another huge step towards winning the Premier League title when they welcome Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side are running away with the title this season as they are currently 13 points clear of second-placed Manchester United with a game in hand.

City have won 23 of their 27 league games so far this campaign with their only defeat coming at Anfield against Liverpool last month and they have racked-up an incredible +59 goal difference.

Another win over Chelsea on Sunday will take the Citizens to the brink of winning the title as it would be virtually unthinkable they could blow a 16-point lead with just 10 games remaining.

However, Chelsea have aspirations of their own as the Blues are in a tough fight to finish in the top four this season and retain their Champions League status for next year.

Antonio Conte’s men sit fifth in the table following the defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday but Tottenham are just two points ahead so Chelsea could climb back in to the top four with a win over City if other results go their way.

Betting

Understandably, the football betting odds have City as the 1.60 favourites to win the game while Chelsea can be backed at best odds of 5.40 to take three points back to London.

Both teams to score at 1.68 looks a solid bet but if you want more value then combining a Man City win with both teams to score gives us tempting odds of 3.15 – which is my value bet of the week.

City have a big Champions League game against Basel next Wednesday to worry about so that may give Chelsea some hope but I still think the hosts will have too much quality for Conte’s side.

City have been unbeatable at the Etihad having dropped just two points so far in their 14 home games while Chelsea have won just half of their games on the road, losing 4.

Therefore, I can’t see past a home win and a 2-1 City victory at odds of 8.00 looks tempting but if we throw Sergio Aguero in as the first goalscorer we enhance the odds to 15.00.

Guardiola’s men got their hands on the first piece of silverware this season with a comfortable 3-0 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday and they will take another step closer to lifting the Premier League title with victory over Chelsea this weekend.
