Arsenal & Liverpool Eye £26m Spanish Star, Player Confirms He’ll Consider Move
Spanish attacker Pedro has confirmed he’ll consider his future at Barcelona this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to offer him a fresh start in England
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Barcelona attacker Pedro….
Spanish attacker Pedro has confirmed he’ll consider his future at Barcelona this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool ready to offer him a fresh start in the Premier League, according to reports.
Pedro has been on the books at Barca since joining the club when he was 17 years old in 2004 and he progressed through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team set-up in 2008.
The attacker enjoyed a stunning campaign in 2009/10 which saw him score 23 goals in 52 appearances to help the Catalans win the La Liga title and many expected him to go on and establish himself as a key player over the coming years.
However, while Pedro has remained an important part of the squad, he’s never really cemented himself as a first team regular and he’s dropped even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Luis Suarez last summer.
The 27-year-old has started just five league games since the Uruguayan international returned from his biting ban in October and his situation has led to speculation linking him with a move away from the Nou Camp this summer, with reports suggesting that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to lure the £26m-rated attacker to the Premier League.
The duo have now been boosted in their pursuit after Pedro admitted to reporters that his situation at the club is ‘difficult’ and he’ll consider his future at the end of the season.
“I am living a difficult situation, even though it’s normal to have a few chances in this team.
“I must just wait to wait for other chances and take them.
“The future? At the end of the season I will think about and talk with the club, not now.” Pedro is quoted as saying by the Daily Star
Pedro is clearly not be getting the game-time he’d like at Barca and I think he’d be an excellent signing for either Arsenal or Liverpool if one of them could get a deal agreed this summer.
Despite being a bit-part player, the Spaniard has still managed to score an impressive 97 goals in 303 appearances over the past nine seasons. He’s been predominantly used from the right wing by Barca but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three, so he’d give Arsene Wenger or Brendan Rodgers plenty of options in attack.
However, the main stumbling block over any potential deal is that Barca are banned from signing players until January 2016 so they are likely to be reluctant to let such a vlauable squad player go when they can’t bring in a replacement.
Sporting director Ariedo Braida spoke to Spanish TV over the weekend and insisted that Pedro is an important part of Barcelona’s plans:
“Pedro has an essential role here at Barcelona.
“He is a very important player for Barcelona.” Braida is quoted as saying by the Daily Star

So while Pedro could be keen on a move, Arsenal and Liverpool may find it difficult to persuade Barcelona to cash-in unless Luis Enrique believes be has enough internal solutions to cope with the loss of the versatile attacker this summer.
