Man Utd Hope To Trump Chelsea & Liverpool With £20m Attacker Bid
Manchester United are hoping to beat Chelsea and Liverpool to the signing of Pedro with the Red Devils set to test Barcelona’s resolve with a £20m offer
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, the race for Pedro hots-up…
Manchester United are hoping to beat Chelsea and Liverpool to the signing of Pedro Rodriguez with the Red Devils set to test Barcelona’s resolve with a £20m offer, according to the Express.
Pedro appeared to commit his future to Barca after signing a new long-term contract last month but the Guardian reported last week that the deal was only signed in order to reduce his buy-out clause from £106m to a far more affordable £22m.
This revelation was soon confirmed by the player himself and he fuelled speculation that he’s set for a move after revealing he’s received ‘important offers’ and admitted his situation at the Nou Camp was ‘difficult’.
“It’s true, the two parties decided to lower the clause and it’s true that there are offers,”
“I am in a difficult situation at Barcelona. I do not want to advance anything, I am only looking forward to starting with my team-mates and beginning work.” Pedro is quoted as saying by the Express
It’s no wonder he’s considering a move this summer as Pedro is well behind Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar in the pecking order and with the European Championships coming up next year, the attacker will no doubt be keen on playing regular football to ensure his place in the Spain squad.
The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League with the Express reporting last week that Chelsea were confident of wrapping-up a deal for his signature while the Daily Mail then claimed that Liverpool were also showing a keen interest in signing the attacker.
However, it appears the duo will now face stiff competition as the Express are citing reports coming from Spanish outlet Marca today that claim Manchester United are hoping to trump their rivals by tabling a £20m offer for Pedro’s services.
Louis van Gaal has been extremely busy in the transfer market this summer but I expect the Dutchman to bring in another forward after Robin van Persie moved to Fenerbache and Pedro would be an excellent signing.
Despite now always being a regular, the Spaniard has managed to score 98 goals in 318 appearances for Barcelona so he’d certainly bring an added goal threat while his versatility would also be a useful asset as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three positions.

We’ll have to wait and see how Barca respond if United do go ahead and table a £20m offer but even if they end up paying the £22m buy-out fee, I still think Pedro would be a bargain at that price.
