Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that N’Golo Kante will leave Leicester City this summer and has refused to rule out a move for the French international
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsene Wenger hints at a move for N’Golo Kante…
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that N’Golo Kante will leave Leicester City this summer and has refused to rule out a move for the French international, according to the Mirror.
Kante has just come off the back of a sensational campaign that saw his tireless performances drive Leicester to a shock Premier League title win in his debut season in England following his move from Caen last summer.
The 25-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs throughout Europe with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal are among those who’ve been strongly linked with making a move for the midfielder.
Wenger has never hidden his admiration of Kante but many felt any chance Arsenal would swoop for the French international was over after we splashed out £30m on the signing of Swiss international midfielder Granit Xhaka.
However, the rumours surrounding Kante have continued and Wenger has now fuelled the speculation once again after refusing to rule out a move for the midfielder while the boss also hinted that Leicester have already signed Nampaly Mendy as Kante’s replacement.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“It is very difficult to talk about that at the moment, Kante is on the list of many clubs. It is an area where we have many players.
“We will see what happens in the next two or three weeks. It looks like Leicester have bought a player from Nice [Nampalys Mendy] with similar qualities to Kante, so whether they envisage to lose him or not I don’t know.
“If you ask 100 people in the street if they want Kante to play [for France] you will get 100 saying yes. He has done the job in one or two games and I am not surprised.
“I said two months ago this boy will play the whole European Championship. We know him well from Leicester now and I am not surprised that he is starting. He has been one of the revelations of the French team.”
Leicester are obviously desperate to keep hold of Kante but with the Frenchman reportedly having a £20m buyout clause in his contract, they will know it’s likely he’ll leave this summer and it seems Wenger is a huge fan.
However, it’s difficult to see where he’d fit in at the Emirates if we did end up signing him as we already have an array of central midfielders available with Xhaka joining Mohamed Elneny, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin in battling-it-out over two positions.

Therefore, if Wenger does decide to step-up his interest then I suspect we’ll see one of the current six sold and I’d say Coquelin would be the most likely candidate as he plays in the same defensive role as Kante.
