Liverpool have launched a late bid to sign Manchester United target Luan after the Reds tabled a £30m offer for the Gremio forward, according to a report in the Liverpool Echo.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the hottest young talents in Brazilian football since joining Gremio in 2013 and helped his country win Olympic gold in Rio this summer, featuring in all six games.
Luan has since returned to his club where he’s continued his fine form having scored six goals in his last 15 matches and it appears the youngster’s potential has caught the attention of two Premier League giants.
The Liverpool Echo are citing reports coming from Brazilian radio station Futebol da Gaucha that claim both Liverpool and Manchester United have been showing a keen interest in luring the forward to England this month.
Jose Mourinho has suggested that his summer business is over after wrapping up the world record signing of Paul Pogba but the Portuguese coach continues to be linked with new additions and he may not be able to resist should Luan indicate he’s open to a move before the window closes.
However, it appears the Liverpool have stolen a march on their north west rivals as the report suggests that the Merseysiders have tested Gremio’s resolve with an opening £30m offer.
The news comes shortly after Gremio vice-president Alberto Guerra admitted the club would consider any offers that come in for their key men.
“Every good player is targeted. If a proposal arrives, we will analyse,” Guerra is quoted as saying by the Echo
The report doesn’t indicate whether Gremio have responded to Liverpool’s offer as yet but I’m sure the Brazilian outfit would give it serious consideration as it’s a sizeable offer for the South American attacker.
Jurgen Klopp has been extremely busy this summer bringing in seven new players but the German coach has been tipped to make a late dip in to the transfer market and Luan would be an extremely exciting addition if they could pull it off.

The youngster is predominantly a central attacking midfielder but he’s capable of playing out on the wings or even up front if needed so he’d give Klopp plenty of options in the final third.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Brazilian team mates Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino would be able to help Luan settle at Anfield if he does end up joining Liverpool over the coming days.
