Chelsea Team News: Conte Confirms Player To Make Debut v Liverpool + Terry Update
Antonio Conte has offered the team news ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool and confirmed a player will make his debut and gave an update on John Terry
Chelsea will look to get back to winning ways following their draw at Swansea City when they take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
Ahead of the game, Antonio Conte has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given Chelseafc.com a team news and injury update.
The Italian tactician confirmed that John Terry has been ruled out for around 10 days after suffering strained ankle ligaments during the final stages of Sunday’s draw at the Liberty Stadium.
Terry picked up the injury following an innocuous clash with Leroy Fer in second half stoppage time and after undergoing a scan to determine the full extent of the problem, the Blues skipper is now set to miss the next 10 days.
In Terry’s absence, Conte has also confirmed that David Luiz is set to come in against Liverpool and make his second debut for the club after completing a big-money move back to west London from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
Luiz spent three years with Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 and was widely criticised for his defensive abilities during his time at the club but Conte is backing the Brazilian international to put in a solid performance against Liverpool.
Conte told the clubs website:
‘John strained the ligament of his ankle, the doctor told me after 10 days he could be available to come back. He is working very hard and today he had a training session to recover,’
‘Tomorrow, David Luiz will play for the first time with us and we are confident about him.
‘We expect him to play very well, we know he’s a good player. We are working to put him in the best condition to give us the best of him.
‘When new players arrive they need time to adapt to a new concept but tomorrow we need to play David Luiz. He’s worked a lot on defensive situations and when we are in possession. I have confidence in him.’
Chelsea started the season well having registered Premier League victories over West Ham, Watford and Burnley but saw their 100% record end with a 2-2 draw at Swansea last time out so Conte will be keen to get back to winning ways against the Merseysiders on Friday.
