Liverpool Star Emerges As Latest Injury Doubt Ahead Of Man Utd Clash
A key Liverpool player has emerged as the clubs latest injury concern ahead of next weekend’s huge showdown against north-west rivals Manchester United
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has emerged as the clubs latest injury concern ahead of the clubs huge showdown against north-west rivals Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.
Lovren suffered a groin injury during the final stages of Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon but he was also carrying a back problem in the week leading up to the game.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp expressed hope after the win in Wales that Lovren’s injury woes weren’t serious but the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Croatia that suggest the defender is in some discomfort.
The Croatian national team doctor Boris Nemec is quoted in the newspaper as saying that Lovren can ‘hardly walk’ and is not even able to sit properly without being in a lot of pain.
It’s reported that they are awaiting the results of an MRI scan to determine the full extent of the injury and Lovren has been given an injection to see if it will ease the pressure in his lower back.
However, Nemec suggests that Lovren is set to miss Croatia’s World Cup qualifiers and Kosovo and Finland later this week with boss Ante Cacic opting to call up HNK Rijeka defender Matej Mitrovic to replace the 27-year-old.
The news will come as a big concern to Jurgen Klopp as Lovren is now considered as a major doubt for Liverpool’s next Premier League clash when Manchester United visit Anfield on October 17th.
Lovren has become a key player for Klopp since his arrival as manager a year ago so the German coach will be desperate for him to be available ahead of what’s going to be a hectic period for the club.
Following the United game, Liverpool then take on West Brom and Tottenham [EFL Cup] at Anfield before a trip to Crystal Palace on the 29th making it 4 games in just 12 days.
Klopp is already sweating on the fitness of Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana after they were forced out of England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers having picked up knocks at Swansea while Joe Gomez and Sheyji Ojo are also unavailable for selection, so they will be hoping for positive news regarding Lovren when the results of the MRI are known.
