Liverpool Team News: Klopp Positive On Midfielder Plus Coutinho & Firmino Updates
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed some positive news on an injured Liverpool midfielder plus updates on Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino ahead of Southampton
Liverpool get back to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update including the latest on Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Lallana was forced off during the first half of England’s 2-2 draw with Spain on Tuesday night after suffering an apparent groin injury and newspaper reports on Friday morning suggested that he had been ruled out of the trip to face his former side this weekend.
However, Klopp has confirmed that no decision has been made over the midfielder yet and he will wait to see the scan results before Lallana’s availability on Saturday will be determined.
The good news for Liverpool is that Klopp believes the 28-year-old will be ‘close’ for this weekend and hopes the injury isn’t anything too serious, so Lallana shouldn’t be on the sidelines for too long.
The Liverpool boss also confirmed that Coutinho and Firmino arrived back on Merseyside last night after the club chartered a private jet to fly the Brazilian internationals back from South America.
Klopp says he hasn’t seen the two attackers yet so he’ll have to wait and see what their condition is in training ahead of the Southampton game but he hopes they’ve found the time to get some sleep.
Given that Coutinho and Firmino arrived back from international duty a day early and have two days to prepare for the trip to the south coast, I see no reason why both shouldn’t be passed fit to face Southampton on Saturday.
Here is what Klopp told reporters today:
