Huge Liverpool Boost As Klopp Confirms Key Man Will Return For Man Utd Trip
Liverpool have been handed a boost as Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that a key man will be back in time to face Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend
Liverpool have been handed a major boost as Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will be back in time to face Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Henderson missed the 2-2 draw at Sunderland last week after limping out of the win over Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve having sustained a heel injury.
The England international has been plagued by heel issues over the past year so understandably Liverpool fans were concerned that the midfielder might be facing another extended spell on the sidelines.
However, Klopp has now moved to ease those fears after revealing that Henderson’s injury isn’t a serious one and the midfielder is already on his way back to full fitness.
The Reds skipper will still sit out tomorrow’s FA Cup third round clash with Plymouth Argyle as well as Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Southampton.
However, with the 26-year-old responding well to treatment, Klopp is confident the Liverpool captain will be available for the Merseysiders trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United next Sunday.
Klopp is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo:
“It’s good news. He has this issue with the heel which meant we had to take him out for a while but he’s already on the way back.
“He has no chance for this weekend and there will be no risk for the Southampton game but after that it’s absolutely possible that he will be back.”
The news will come as a major boost to Liverpool as Henderson has become an integral part of Klopp’s impressive team this season and he’s played a key role in helping the club put in a serious title challenge.
Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League table but are now just five points behind leaders Chelsea after they lost at Tottenham on Wednesday night.
With United also on a superb run of form having won their last six league games, Jose Mourinho’s side are now just five points off Liverpool in sixth place in the table.
Therefore, the showdown at Old Trafford next weekend is going to be crucial to both sides hopes this campaign so Klopp will be relieved that Henderson is on course to making his comeback from injury.
