Tottenham Plot Swoop For Assist King After Cooling Interest In £50m Star
Tottenham are eyeing a £25m swoop to re-sign Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea after cooling their interest in Everton midfielder Ross Barkley
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are linked with Gylfi Sigurdsson….
Tottenham are eyeing a £25m swoop to re-sign Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea after cooling their interest in Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, according to the Daily Mail.
Mauricio Pochettino knows he needs to strengthen his squad this summer to ensure Spurs will be competitive both in the Premier League and Champions League next season.
A new creative midfielder is on the agenda and the Daily Mail claim that the Spurs boss has been chasing Barkley for some time but has been put off by Everton demanding £50m, despite the fact the 23-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract.
Barkley is considered as one of England’s brightest prospects but he’s far from the finished article and Pochettino knows the young Merseysider still needs work to hone his skills.
This has all led to the Argentinean coach looking at other targets and the Daily Mail claim that Tottenham have now identified Sigurdsson as a much cheaper and better alternative to Barkley.
The newspaper says that Spurs are lining-up a £25m move for the Icelandic international as Pochettino looks to take Sigurdsson back to White Hart Lane three years after he was sold to Swansea.
The 27-year-old spent two seasons at Tottenham after joining the club from Hoffenheim in 2012 but things didn’t work out for him in north London and he was sold the same summer Pochettino arrived as manager.
Pochettino wasn’t involved in the decision and has always maintained selling Sigurdsson was a mistake so it seems he’s now ready to try and lure the playmaker back to White Hart Lane this summer.
Sigurdsson has rediscovered his best form at Swansea having scored 10 goals and provided a further 13 assists this season – which makes him the joint second best provider in the Premier League.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Sigurdsson would be an excellent addition for Tottenham and it would be a great piece of business if they could get a deal agreed for £25m this summer.
