Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have tabled an offer for James Rodriguez….
Arsenal have stolen a march on Chelsea and Manchester United after opening the bidding with a huge offer for Real Madrid’s £70m-rated attacker James Rodriguez, according to a report in the Express.
Rodriguez joined Madrid from Monaco after starring at the 2014 World Cup finals but has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular at the Bernabeu over the past three years.
The Colombian international started just 13 La Liga games last season with the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco all ahead of him in Zinedine Zidane’s pecking order.
It’s led to speculation the attacker will look for a move this summer and his exit was all-but confirmed after Zidane left Rodriguez out of his squad for last weeks Champions League final against Juventus.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with the Metro claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all shown a keen interest in recent weeks.
Antonio Conte needs to strengthen his Chelsea squad to cope with the demands of Champions League football next season and Rodriguez would be a top class alternative to the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro if he was to move to Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho is also gearing up for a busy summer as he looks to build a squad capable of being serious title challengers and The Sun reported last month that Rodriguez was keen on moving to United.
However, it looks like Arsenal have stolen a march on their rivals as the Metro are citing a report coming from Spanish TV show El Chiringuito that claims the Gunners have tabled a sizeable offer for Rodriguez.
No precise details about Arsenal’s offer have been disclosed but the report did state that it fell short of Madrid’s £69.8m valuation so it looks like the north Londoners are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the South American.
Arsene Wenger is under pressure to mount a serious title challenge next season after missing out on the top four and the Arsenal boss is seemingly ready to splash the cash in order to strengthen his squad.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal go back in with an improved offer or if the likes of Chelsea or United decide to formalise their interest but I think Rodriguez would be an excellent signing.

The Colombian is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so he’d be a very useful addition to any squad and I think he has the ability to be a real star if he’s given a more prominent role at a new team.
