Arsenal and Manchester United have been placed on red alert after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s proposed £61m move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed, according to a report in the Metro.
Aubameyang enhanced his reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in European football after scoring 40 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season.
The Gabon international is expected to leave the Westfalonstadion this summer and he’s been linked with a move to the Premier League with the Mirror reporting that Man Utd were showing a keen interest.
The Daily Mail then reported earlier this month that Arsenal had joined the chase for Aubameyang’s signature as Arsene Wenger looks to add a top class striker to his squad this summer.
PSG then emerged as the clear front-runners to secure a deal but the Metro are citing a report from Bild that claims the Ligue 1 giants have pulled the plug on the proposed deal.
The newspaper says PSG have decided they no longer need another striker and will instead use the £61m put aside for Aubameyang to sign a top class central midfielder.
The Metro claim the news has put Arsenal and United on red alert and the English giants could now make renewed attempts to sign Aubameyang – although they’ll still face competition from Chinese outfit Tianjin Quanjian who’ve offered the striker a huge contract.
Arsenal desperately need a world class striker to lead their attack next season if Wenger’s side want to have any realistic chance of winning the title and Aubameyang would be ideal for the north Londoners.
However, United are also in the market for striking reinforcements after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and while Alvaro Morata is being tipped to move to Old Trafford, Mourinho may need two new forwards as Wayne Rooney is expected to leave this summer.
The Red Devils have the financial clout to buy both Morata and Aubameyang if they wanted to and they’d certainly add some much-needed goals to an attack that only registered 54 times in the league last season.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop now that PSG have ruled themselves out of the running but I think Aubameyang would be a superb signing for either Arsenal or United so hopefully we’ll see him playing in England next year.
