Tottenham Agree Club Record £42m Deal To Sign Arsenal & Chelsea Target
Tottenham have agreed a club record fee worth up to £42m with Ajax for Arsenal & Chelsea target Davinson Sanchez
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final weeks of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham close-in on Davinson Sanchez…
Tottenham have agreed a club record fee worth up to £42m with Ajax for Arsenal & Chelsea target Davinson Sanchez as Mauricio Pochettino closes in on his first summer signing, according to the Guardian.
Sanchez has developed in to one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe since joining Ajax from Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional last summer.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in Holland as he was named as the clubs Player of the Year after helping Ajax reach the final of the Europa League and finish just one point behind Eredivisie champions Feyenoord.
The Colombian international has attracted lots of interest from the Premier League with Football London reporting recently that Arsenal and Chelsea had joined Tottenham in the race to sign Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger may be in the market for another centre-back as Gabriel is on the verge of joining Valencia while Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to further strengthen his squad and Sanchez was seemingly on both managers radars.
This prompted Spurs to step-up their pursuit and the Evening Standard say the north Londoners sent club officials to Amsterdam on Monday to try and thrash out a deal with Ajax.
After seeing an initial £25m bid knocked back, the Guardian claim Tottenham have now agreed a deal in principle that will see them pay £28m up front with a further £14m coming in performance-based add ons.
If those conditions are met, Spurs will end up paying £42m – which would represent a club record deal for the White Hart Lane club – so it’s certainly a statement of intent by Tottenham heading in to what’s expected to be a busy fortnight.
Mauricio Pochettino is yet to make a single signing this window but he’s vowed to be extremely active during the closing stages of the summer and it looks like Sanchez is set to be the first of several arrivals.

The Guardian claims the defender snubbed late interest from Tottenham’s London rivals after indicating his desire to move to White Hart Lane and the South American is expected to sign a five-year contract over the coming days.
