Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Triple Boost Ahead Of Arsenal + Coutinho Update
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a triple injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal this weekend plus he’s offered an update on Philippe Coutinho
Liverpool will look to make an early statement in the Premier League title race when they welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.
Klopp was pleased to confirm a triple boost as the Reds boss is confident Emre Can, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum will all be in contention to start against the Gunners.
Can suffered a minor twist during Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Hoffenheim in midweek while Alexander-Arnold also picked up a dead leg during the same game but both players are expected to recover in time to face Arsenal.
Wijnaldum flew back to the Netherlands for the birth of his third child after Wednesday’s Champions League play-off win but the midfielder is expected to return to Merseyside in time to play on Sunday.
However, Klopp confirmed that Philippe Coutinho is still not in contention as he continues to recover from a back issue despite being named in Brazil’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Reds boss told the clubs website:
“Little things, nothing major. Trent had a little dead leg but was not too serious, Emre twisted a little bit but shouldn’t be that serious. Nothing happened yesterday, so it should be OK.”
“At the moment, he [Coutinho] is in our injury list and that didn’t change. I was not in contact with the Brazilian FA so far, but like the rules are, if they want to see him and check him then he has to go there. That’s how it is.
“I don’t know exactly but I think that will happen. Then we will do it, that’s no problem.”
Klopp on Wijnaldum: "I was waiting for the message to say the baby had arrived! He will be available for Sunday."

It will be a big boost for Liverpool if Can and Alexander-Arnold are passed fit but Adam Lallana remains out with a thigh strain while Nathaniel Clyne is also still struggling with a hamstring problem.
Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting on four points from their opening two games after securing a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend so Klopp will no doubt be desperate to beat rivals Arsenal on Sunday ahead of the international break.
