Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Ross Barkley….
Tottenham are considering whether to postpone their move for Ross Barkley which could pave the way for Chelsea to snap-up the £25m-rated Everton midfielder this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
Barkley has been tipped to leave Goodison Park all summer as he’s in the final year of his contract and has made it clear to the club he won’t be signing an extension.
The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with Tottenham in recent months with the Telegraph reporting that the north Londoners were ready to test Everton’s resolve with a formal offer for the midfielder.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be active during the closing stages of the transfer window and Barkley was believed to be a prime target despite being ruled out for at least two months with a hamstring injury.
The Mirror then claimed last week that Chelsea were trying to hijack Tottenham’s proposed move as they planned to hold talks with Everton about a potential £25m deal after their meeting at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Antonio Conte is desperate to further strengthen his midfield options and Barkley would also boost Chelsea’s home-grown quota if he moved to west London before Thursday’s deadline.
It was gearing-up for a fierce battle between the London rivals, however, the Evening Standard are reporting today that Tottenham are now considering postponing their interest until January.
The newspaper says Spurs are concerned that Barkley’s injury will keep him on the sidelines for several weeks so they may look to bide their time and see how he recovers when he returns to action later this year.

This hesitance would leave the door wide open for Chelsea to move in and complete a deal unchallenged for Barkley’s signature so it looks like the Blues could be in pole position to secure the midfielder this week.
