Jose Mourinho Ready To Hijack Chelsea’s Move With £50m Attacker Bid
Jose Mourinho has registered late interest in signing Chelsea target Riyad Mahrez with the Man Utd boss keen to launch a £50m bid for the Leicester attacker
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Riyad Mahrez…
Jose Mourinho has registered late interest in signing Chelsea target Riyad Mahrez with the Manchester United boss keen to launch a £50m bid for the Leicester attacker, according to a report in the Independent.
Mahrez has been strongly linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium all summer after handing in a formal transfer request at the end of last season.
The Algerian international has attracted interest from all over Europe but as yet no club has been able to strike a deal having failed to meet Leicester’s asking price.
The Express carried a report yesterday that claimed Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had held talks with Mahrez recently about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Conte is desperate to further strengthen his squad before the window shuts and the newspaper says Chelsea are ready to test Leicester’s resolve with a £46.5m bid for Mahrez.
However, it looks like Man Utd are ready to trump their rivals as the Independent is citing a report from SFR Sport that claims Mourinho has now registered his interest in signing the attacker.
The French TV station suggests that Mourinho is urging his bosses to launch a £50m bid but the United chiefs are yet to be convinced that Mahrez is worth such a fee.
Mourinho has hinted all summer that he wants to sign another wide attacker to finish off what he describes as the ‘perfect’ summer in the transfer market and it seems Mahrez is his latest target.
The 26-year-old struggled to replicate the kind of form last season that saw him named the PFA Player of the Year in 2015/16 but I think Mahrez would still be an excellent signing for United or Chelsea.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming hours but I think we’ll eventually see Mahrez leave Leicester and a move to United or Chelsea could be on the cards.
