Tottenham are trying to hijack Chelsea’s move for Fernando Llorente after matching their £15m offer for the Swansea City striker, according to the Express.
Llorente only joined Swansea from Sevilla 12 months ago and turned out to be a superb signing for the Welsh outfit as his 15 goals in 33 games proved vital in their fight against relegation.
The 32-year-old has attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League this summer and Chelsea renewed their interest after failing with an approach back in January.
It looked like Antonio Conte was set to get his man as the Daily Mail reported yesterday that Chelsea were on the verge of completing a £15m deal after seeing their offer accepted by the Swans.
The only thing holding back the deal was Swansea completing a £13m deal to re-sign Wilfried Bony from Manchester City but the expectation was that Llorente was heading to Stamford Bridge.
Conte is gearing-up for a hectic deadline day as he looks to strengthen his squad and Llorente was being lined-up as the man to support Alvaro Morata up front amid on-going doubts over Michy Batshuayi.
However, there could be a late twist as the Express are citing a report from Goal that claims Tottenham are trying to hijack Chelsea’s move after matching their £15m bid for Llorente.
Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to further strengthen his squad before tonight’s 11pm deadline and the former Spanish hitman would offer competition to Harry Kane if he was to move to North London.
