Chelsea have tabled an improved offer worth £30m for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to Telegraph journalist Matt Law.
Antonio Conte is keen to strengthen his midfield options before tonight’s deadline after selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United and Nathan Chalobah to Watford.
The Blues boss was frustrated with his pursuit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the Arsenal midfielder opted to join Liverpool so Conte will be desperate to land Drinkwater.
The Evening Standard claimed that the England international handed in a transfer request earlier this week to try and push through a move to Chelsea after Leicester rejected their £25m offer.
Chelsea have now gone back in to test the Foxes resolve with The Telegraph journalist Matt Law claiming an improved offer worth £30m has now been put on the table.
The deal consists of Chelsea paying £27m up front and a further £3m coming in additional add ons so it’s up to Leicester to decide whether to cash-in on the 27-year-old midfielder.
Law tweeted:
Chelsea have made a new bid worth over £30m for Danny Drinkwater. Around £27m plus add-ons I'm told. Over to Leicester #cfc #lcfc

Leicester are reportedly lining-up Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva as a replacement so Chelsea will be hoping the Foxes can get a deal agreed as that will pave the way for Drinkwater to move to Stamford Bridge.

Should Drinkwater complete his move to west London, he’ll have the opportunity to rekindle his partnership with N’Golo Kante after the pair led Leicester to the title in 2015/16.
