The transfer window is now closed but clubs are already thinking ahead to January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are ready to renew their interest in Thomas Lemar….
Liverpool are ready to battle-it-out with Arsenal over the signing of Thomas Lemar in January after both clubs failed with mega bids for the Monaco attacker on deadline day, according to the Mirror.
Lemar became a prime target for the Premier League duo after emerging as one of the most exciting young attackers in European football last season with the 21-year-old’s 14 goals and 17 assists firing Monaco to the Ligue 1 title.
Arsenal were the front-runners for most of the summer and Arsene Wenger launched a huge £92m bid [via the Mirror] to sign the winger on deadline day as he looked to find a possible replacement for Man City target Alexis Sanchez.
However, it looks like the Gunners weren’t the only club to table a bid for Lemar on Thursday as the Mirror claim Liverpool also formalised their interest with an £82m offer of their own.
The Merseysiders club-record bid was knocked back by Monaco as they reportedly accepted Arsenal’s higher £92m offer but Lemar felt there wasn’t enough time to secure a move to the Emirates so late in the day.
Lemar was due to play for France in their World Cup qualifier against Holland that evening and the attacker showed Arsenal and Liverpool what they missed out on after scoring a superb brace during a 4-0 win.
However, it looks like the duo will try again in January and the Mirror suggest Liverpool are ready to steal a march on Arsenal by swiftly returning to the negotiation table with Monaco over a potential deal this winter.
Jurgen Klopp managed to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho despite intense interest from Barcelona but no doubt the Catalans will try again so Lemar could be lined-up as a replacement for the Brazilian playmaker.
Arsenal have their own disgruntled player to worry about as Sanchez won’t be happy about his proposed move to Man City falling through so Wenger is also likely to revisit his interest in Lemar this January.

It will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months but I’m certain we’re going to seen Lemar linked strongly with a move to England once again ahead of the winter window.
