Alexis Sanchez scored a sensational goal as Arsenal came from behind to beat Cologne 3-1 in their Europa League opener at the Emirates this evening.
It was a nightmare start for a much-changed Arsenal side and number two goalkeeper David Ospina was at fault for the opener as he found himself stranded outside his box after fluffing a clearance and Cologne striker Jhon Cordoba fired home a stunning effort in to the empty net from 40 yards in the 9th minute.
We struggled to get going at all during the first half but we levelled things up shortly after the break as Sead Kolasinac – on for Rob Holding at half-time – rifled home a stunning volley for 1-1.
We then took the lead in spectacular fashion as Alexis Sanchez drifted inside from the left before curling home a stunner in to the top corner in the 67th minute.
The three points were wrapped-up when Hector Bellerin was on hand to pounce on a loose ball and slot home the third after Theo Walcott’s shot was saved in the 82nd minute.
