Team News: Wenger Confirms Injury Boost, Star Ruled Out + Duo To Start Cup Clash
Arsene Wenger has confirmed an injury boost ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Doncaster but another player has been ruled out while he names two starters
Arsenal will be looking to book their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup when we take on Doncaster at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has provided a team news and injury update with the latest on Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Debuchy, Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers.
Ozil missed our 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge due to a minor knee injury but Wenger says that while the attacker won’t be risked against Doncaster, he is back in training so could be in contention to face West Brom at the weekend.
Welbeck limped off on Sunday afternoon after picking up a groin injury against Chelsea and Wenger says the attacker is due to undergo a scan today to determine the full extent of the problem.
However, it must be serious as the boss has already confirmed that Welbeck is certain to be out until after the international break meaning he’ll miss upcoming games against Doncaster, West Brom, BATE Borisov and Brighton.
Francis Coquelin is also out for at least another month as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury while Mathieu Debuchy won’t feature tomorrow night as he’s still working his way back to full fitness.
One player who will be involved is Wilshere as Wenger has confirmed the midfielder will make his first start in an Arsenal shirt for over 13 months after recently recovering from a fractured leg.
Chambers is also in-line to make his first start of the season as the centre-back looks to rebuild his career at the Emirates having come close to leaving the club during the summer.
Wenger is set to make plenty of changes against Doncaster with the boss saying it will be a similar team to the one that faced Cologne in the Europa League last week.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on Danny Welbeck…
Danny has a scan today, we don’t know how bad his groin injury is but he will certainly be out until the international break. Coquelin as well. Debuchy is coming back slowly.
on Debuchy not being involved against Doncaster…
No, no.
on Ozil…
Mesut is training again, but for tomorrow no [he will not feature]. He has a little inflammation of his knee.
on Calum Chambers…
Yes, he will be involved against Doncaster. Jack Wilshere is involved too.
on the make-up of the squad…
Yes [it will be a mix], but it will be a similar team to the one that played against Cologne.
Arsenal head in to the Doncaster game after recovering from a disappointing start to the season so Wenger will be hoping to secure another victory and book the north Londoners place in the next round of the League Cup.
