Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Double Blow, Attacker A Doubt + Ozil Update
Arsene Wenger has provided a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s clash with West Brom including a double injury blow and the latest on Mesut Ozil
Arsenal will be looking to continue their mini-revival when we welcome West Bromwich Albion to the Emirates on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s provided a team news and injury update.
The boss confirmed Calum Chambers has suffered a fresh injury blow with the news that the centre-back will be out until after the international break with a hip problem.
The young defender was handed his first start of the season against Doncaster last night after recovering from a hip injury but he was forced off at half-time after aggravating the problem and has now been ruled out for a couple of weeks.
Chambers joins Danny Welbeck on the treatment table as Wenger also confirmed that the attacker has been ruled out of England international duty with a groin injury.
Welbeck picked up the issue during our 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend and is now targetting his comeback against Watford on October 14th.
There was some more positive news on Mesut Ozil as the boss revealed that the German international is back in training and should be part of the main group today after missing the last two games with a knee injury.
Theo Walcott also suffered a minor knee problem during the League Cup win over Doncaster last night and while the attacker will be checked over today, Wenger is confident it’s nothing serious.
He is quoted as saying by the Express:
“He has a groin injury, he will be back for Watford. After the international game, he won’t be available for England.”
“Ozil is in training and he will come back with the team today or tomorrow,”
“Chambers I believe will be out until after the international break with a hip problem.
“He [Walcott] had a kick behind his knee at half-time. In the second half he got another kick, I don’t think it’s big. It looks just like a kick, not more than that.
“Theo Walcott will be checked today, we don’t think it’s much.”
Arsenal head in to the weekend action having won all four of the games we’ve played at the Emirates so far this season so Wenger will be hoping to continue that run against West Brom on Monday night.
