Chelsea’s Injury Blow: Key Man Facing Month Out + 2 Others To Miss Roma Clash
Chelsea have been dealt a fresh injury blow with Victor Moses ruled out for a month while N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater will also miss the clash with Roma
Chelsea have been dealt a fresh injury blow with Victor Moses facing a month on the sidelines while N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater will also miss the clash with Roma on Wednesday night, according to the Telegraph.
Moses has become an important player for Chelsea over the past year and once again started in the right wing-back position during their Premier League encounter at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
However, the Nigerian international failed to complete the ninety minutes after limping off shortly before half-time during a shock 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park.
Antonio Conte confirmed immediately after the game that Moses had suffered a hamstring injury but he was praying for positive news as they prepared to assess the midfielder.
However, it looks like the Blues boss has been dealt another blow as the Telegraph claim that the initial diagnosis is that Moses is facing at least four weeks on the sidelines.
That time-frame would see the 26-year-old miss Chelsea’s Champions League double-header with Roma, the League Cup clash with Everton as well as crucial league games against Watford, Bournemouth and Manchester United.
The news will come as a major blow to Chelsea as Moses has followed Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante in picking up a hamstring injury inside the last two weeks alone.
Conte has already ruled Kante out of the visit of Roma and the French international isn’t expected back before the end of the month while Danny Drinkwater is also still nursing a calf injury that’s hampered him since he moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
However, the Blues boss is hoping Morata will make a swift recovery to be available on Wednesday as Roma come to west London for their crucial Champions League showdown.
Speaking after the defeat at Palace, Conte is quoted as saying by the Daily Star:
“Kante and Drinkwater are still out. I hope to have Morata back for the game.”
Summer signing Davide Zappacosta is expected to come in to replace Moses in the right wing-back role over the coming weeks but Conte has a decision to make in midfield on Wednesday night.
He played a midfield three against Atletico Madrid but with Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko his only fit central midfielders, the Blues boss may have to move David Luiz in to the holding role if he wants to play a similar formation against Roma.
