Liverpool take on Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday evening. Here is our preview including team news, line-up and prediction
Liverpool and Chelsea will be looking to boost their top four hopes when the two giants meet at Anfield on Saturday evening.
The Reds blew a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night but they still go in to the weekend action as the 11/10 favourites to beat Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp’s side eased to a 3-0 victory over Southampton last weekend and have been impressive on home soil recently so Liverpool will be hoping to maintain that form with another win tomorrow.
Chelsea head in to the game sitting third in the table and three points above fifth-placed Liverpool but Antonio Conte knows that with leaders Man City nine points ahead, they need a win on Saturday to stay alive in the title race.
The Blues warmed up for the game with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Qarabag on Wednesday night to book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Team news
Liverpool could be without Emre Can as the midfielder picked up a knock during his substitute appearance against Sevilla in midweek.
However, Joel Matip is back in full training after missing the last two games with a thigh problem so he should be restored in the middle of defence.
Adam Lallana could also be in the squad for the first time this season after recovering from a serious thigh injury but a place on the bench is the best he can realistically hope for.
Chelsea welcome Victor Moses back in to the squad after he overcame a hamstring injury that’s kept him out for six weeks but Conte has confirmed he’s only fit enough to be on the bench.
Alvaro Morata, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen are all expected to be recalled after being rested in midweek but Michy Batshuayi, Charly Musonda and Kenedy all remain out.
Expected line-ups
Predicted Score
Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea: The Blues have won six of their last seven games in all competitions but Liverpool have an excellent record in the big matches under Klopp and certainly raise their game when the top sides come to Anfield. Chelsea have the ability to cause problems to a fragile Liverpool defence but I think the home sides attack will come out on top. I’m going for a 2-1 Liverpool win.
