Liverpool Set To Beat Arsenal & Tottenham To Signing Of Bundesliga Star
Liverpool are set to fend off interest from a number of top clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka
The January transfer window is just around the corner meaning clubs are working hard on potential deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are closing in on Leon Goretzka….
Liverpool are set to fend off interest from a number of top clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to reports in Germany via Football London.
Goretzka joined Schalke from Bochum in 2013 and has developed in to one of the most highly-rated all-round midfielders in German football over the past few years.
The 22-year-old has become a firm fixture in Domenico Tedesco’s starting eleven while he’s also now a regular with the German national team having scored 6 goals in his 12 caps so far.
However, Goretzka’s is set to leave the Veltins Arena after failing to agree terms over a new contract and he’s able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as of January 1st ahead of a free transfer in the summer.
Understandably, the midfielder has attracted plenty of interest with Football London claiming that Arsenal and Tottenham are keen to sign the German international while the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Juventus have also been linked.
Arsene Wenger needs to rejuvenate his squad with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere all out of contract in June while Mauricio Pochettino is also looking to further strengthen his talented young squad.
Goretzka is seemingly on the radar of the north London duo, however, it looks like Arsenal and Tottenham face an uphill battle to lure the midfielder to the capital.
Football London are citing a report from Bild that claims Liverpool are now closing-in on a deal to sign Goretzka and a summer transfer to Anfield could be announced next month.
The report indicates that Goretzka is attracted to the idea of playing under Jurgen Klopp and would link-up with former team mate Joel Matip if he does complete a switch to Merseyside.
We’ll have to wait and see if Liverpool are able to get this deal wrapped-up but it would be another major coup if they could win the race for Goretzka’s signature.
