Brazilian Due In London To Seal £17.5m Move As Chelsea Close-In On Man Utd Target
Emerson Palmieri is due to fly in to London this weekend to complete a £17.5m move to Chelsea as the Blues close-in on the Manchester United target
The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Chelsea are close to signing Emerson Palmieri…
Roma full-back Emerson Palmieri is due to fly in to London this weekend to complete a £17.5m move to Chelsea as the Blues close-in on the Manchester United target, according to CalcioMercato.
Palmieri came through the youth ranks at hometown club Santos in Brazil before joining Roma in the summer of 2015 following a season on loan at Palermo.
However, the left-back has struggled to establish himself at the Stadio Olimpico and he’s played just 15 minutes of Serie A football so far this campaign after only recently recovering from a long-term injury.
It looks like the 23-year-old faces a tough time breaking in to the first team and his situation has alerted Premier League clubs with CalcioMercato claiming that Chelsea and Man Utd are both keen on luring him to England.
Left-back has been a problem area for Jose Mourinho since he arrived as United boss so he’s been linked with a number of players in recent months and it seems Palmieri is on his radar.
However, it looks like Chelsea have stolen a march on United as reports this week have suggested the defending Premier League champions have stepped-up their pursuit of the Brazilian full-back.
Talks have been underway in recent days and CalcioMercato claim that Chelsea have now agreed terms with Roma over a deal worth around £17.5m plus performance-based add ons.
A transfer is now set to move quickly as the Italian outlet says Palmieri is expected to travel to London this weekend to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge with Roma already looking at Matteo Darmian as a replacement.

Antonio Conte has been in the market for a new left-back for several months as he needs competition for Marcos Alonso but it looks like he’s finally got his man with Palmieri expected to arrive over the coming days.
