£20m Brazilian Flying To London For Medical As Chelsea Close-In On Double Swoop
Emerson Palmieri is set to fly to London for his medical as Chelsea look to seal a double swoop on Roma that will also involve Edin Dzeko
The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Chelsea are closing-in on a double swoop….
Emerson Palmieri is set to fly to London for his medical as Chelsea look to seal a double swoop on Roma that will also involve Edin Dzeko, according to the Evening Standard.
Antonio Conte is looking to further strengthen his squad this month and a new left-back to offer competition for Marcos Alonso has been a priority for the Blues boss for some time.
Palmieri emerged as a top target last week and it looks like the Brazilian defender is now set for a move to west London as the Evening Standard claim he’s due to fly to London today to undergo his medical and finalise terms.
The newspaper says Palmieri will cost Chelsea around £20m and is ready to move to Stamford Bridge in order to resurrect his career having failed to force his way back in to the Roma starting eleven following a long-term injury.
Palmieri joined Roma in 2015 and enjoyed an encouraging start to life at the Stadio Olympico but has been restricted to just 15 minutes of Serie A football this season so is looking for a fresh start.
The 23-year-old’s arrival could be part of a double swoop on Roma as the Evening Standard claim Chelsea are also in talks over a deal to sign Dzeko this month.
Conte needs a new striker to offer support for Alvaro Morata – who’s scored just once in his last ten appearances – and Dzeko has now emerged as a prime target for the Blues boss.
The report says Chelsea are prepared to pay £44m for both Dzeko and Palmieri but will hold more talks today as Roma are holding out for another £13m in additional add-ons.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will agree to pay the £57m Roma are demanding but even if they do the Evening Standard claim Dzeko still wants assurances over his playing time before he’ll agree to the move.
However, the 31-year-old would be a superb signing if Chelsea could get a deal agreed as Dzeko has plenty of experience in the Premier League having spent five years at Man City while he won the Golden Boot in Serie A last season.

So it looks like Chelsea are on the verge of sealing a deal for Palmieri but Dzeko will take a little more convincing before the Blues can pull off this proposed double swoop on Roma this month.
