Man Utd & Chelsea In Battle To Sign South American Midfielder
Manchester United and Chelsea are among the teams showing a keen interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal
The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Chelsea and Man Utd are linked with Arturo Vidal…
Manchester United and Chelsea are among the teams showing a keen interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to a report in the Express.
Vidal has been one of the best all-round midfielders in Europe for several years and he’s continued to impress since joining Bayern from Juventus in 2015.
The Chilean international has provided 21 goals and 18 assists in 114 appearances to help the Bundesliga giants win consecutive league and cup doubles in Germany.
However, Vidal’s future at the Allianz Arena is in serious doubt after Bayern agreed a deal to sign Leon Goretzka from Schalke on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Vidal will have just one year remaining on his contract with Bayern this summer so they’re being tipped to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2019.
Understandably, there is plenty of interest being shown in the South American midfielder and the Express are quoting Chilean journalist, Maks Cardenas, as saying that Man Utd and Chelsea are among the clubs vying for his signature.
Cardenas is quoted as saying by the Express:
“Arturo Vidal will remain at Bayern Munich for the rest of the season.”
“In June you will still have one year of contract. He has offers from Italy and China. Chelsea and Manchester United also interested.”
United are expected to be in the market for at least one central midfielder this summer with Michael Carrick due to retire while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in June and yet to agree terms over an extension.
Jose Mourinho wrapped-up the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal yesterday and it looks like the United boss is keen for Vidal to follow his international team mate to Old Trafford this summer.
However, United will face competition from Chelsea as it seems Antonio Conte is also keen on luring Vidal to England as he looks to further strengthen his options in the middle of the park.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Vidal would be an excellent signing for either United or Chelsea and would love to see him plying his trade here in the Premier League next season.
