Manchester United are ready to table a £60m bid to sign Willian as Jose Mourinho eyes an audacious swoop on former club Chelsea this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Mourinho is expected to be extremely active in the transfer market this summer as he looks to create a squad capable of competing with Manchester City having finished 19 points adrift of their rivals last season. United have already agreed deals to sign right-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred but a new attacker also looks to be on the agenda.
The Red Devils lacked creativity in the final third at times last season and it looks like Mourinho is hoping to help solve the problem by signing one of his long-term targets. Willian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since Mourinho took over two years ago having been the manager to take him to Chelsea back in 2013.
It looks like the Portuguese coach is ready to step-up his interest as the Daily Mail claim United are set to launch a £60m bid to sign Willian after failing with an approach for the South American in January.
Willian’s future at Stamford Bridge is in serious doubt as he recently admitted he found life on the bench difficult at times last season after making just 20 Premier League starts under Antonio Conte.
Despite his lack of regular action, the Brazilian international still managed to provide 13 goals and 12 assists in all competitions and was named as Chelsea’s Player’s Player of the Year while he also started in Brazil’s World Cup opening draw with Switzerland on Sunday evening.
However, he’s yet to commit himself to Chelsea and recently called United one of the best teams in the world when commenting on Fred’s move to Old Trafford. Willian is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:
‘Of course (Fred can make an impact), no doubt about that. He has a lot of qualities,’
‘He can improve (them) a lot. He goes to one of the best teams in the world. I am happy for him. I hope he does well at Manchester United.
‘He is very happy to come to the Premier League to play. We talked a little bit about that.’

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Willian has just two years remaining on his current deal so Chelsea may be forced to cash-in before his value starts to drop and they’ve showed in the past with the sales of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic they aren’t afraid to do business with United if the price is right.
