Liverpool are ready to sign Alex Telles this summer by triggering a £35m release clause in his Porto contract as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his defence, according to reports in Portugal via the Mirror.
Telles has been one of the best full-backs in Portuguese football since joining Porto from Galatasaray in 2016 and he provided an impressive 20 assists in his 45 appearances in all competitions last season.
The Brazilian-born defender has been linked with a move this summer and he’s caught the eye of clubs here in the Premier League with TeamTalk reporting last week that Chelsea and Liverpool have both expressed their interest in signing Telles.
However, it looks like Liverpool are ready to steal a march on their rivals as the Mirror are citing a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola that claims the Reds are ready to lodge a £35m bid that would trigger Telles’ release clause.
Porto have already seen right-back Diogo Dalot join Manchester United while Ricardo Pereira is joining Leicester but there is very little they could do to prevent a third full-back from leaving the club if Liverpool meet Telles’ exit fee and he makes it clear he wants to move to Anfield.
Klopp is looking to strengthen throughout his squad this summer as he looks to turn Liverpool in to genuine title contenders next season and it seems the German coach is hoping to land another left-back.
Andrew Robertson has proven to be a sensational addition to the Liverpool squad since arriving last summer but Klopp may be eyeing Telles as a possible replacement for Alberto Moreno – who’s been linked with a move after falling out of favour.

We’ll have to see what happens if/when Liverpool trigger Telles’ release clause but the 25-year-old is a huge talent and I think he’d be a solid signing if the Merseysiders could pull it off.
