Man Utd Ready To Hijack Liverpool: Chief Reveals Mourinho Talks Over £60m Star
Man Utd could be ready to hijack Liverpool’s move for Nabil Fekir after Lyon president Jean-Michel Alus revealed he’s held talks with Jose Mourinho
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Liverpool target Nabil Fekir…
Manchester United could be ready to hijack Liverpool’s move for Nabil Fekir after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulus revealed he’s held talks with Jose Mourinho, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Fekir was strongly linked with a move to Anfield earlier in the summer after Jurgen Klopp had identified the French international as a key summer transfer target as he looks to finally fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho following his January move to Barcelona.
A £53m deal was close to completion just before the start of the World Cup and Fekir even undertook an interview with the official Liverpool website ahead of his unveiling before the move sensationally collapsed at the final minute.
Most media outlets say Liverpool tried to renegotiate the price after being concerned about an old knee injury following the results of his medical but Fekir’s agent suggested last week that a move to Anfield was still on the cards and the negotiations would restart after the World Cup.
However, it seems Liverpool could now face stiff competition for Fekir’s signature as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulus has suggested that he’s held talks with Mourinho and is no longer in discussions with the Merseysiders.
Aulus is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News:
“I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions,”
“Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.
“It was expected at a certain point for him to go to Liverpool. I gave the green light. It did not happen because things were dragged out too long.”
Mourinho is looking to strengthen his squad as he knows United need to improve if they’re to compete with Manchester City next season after finishing 19 points adrift of their rivals last year and he’s already snapped-up midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, Mourinho is expected to sign another midfield player this summer and it seems he’s interested in Fekir – but the MEN suggest the player’s price-tag is now at least £60m so United, or Liverpool, will have to be prepared to dig deep if they want to get a deal agreed.
