Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Chelsea target Gigio Donnarumma as AC Milan prepare to sell the goalkeeper for £53m this summer, according to Il Corriere dello Sport via CalcioMercato.
Donnarumma has been with Milan his entire career and progressed through the youth ranks to become their No.1 having established himself as one of the most talented young keepers in world football over the past two years.
However, the 19-year-old’s future at the San Siro is in serious doubt as he came under fire from his own fans last season and Milan are being tipped to cash-in on the Italian international to help ease their financial difficulties.
Milan have been slapped with a two-year transfer ban after breaching FIFA’s Financial Fair Play guidelines and CalcioMercato cite a report from Il Corriere dello Sport that claims the Serie A giants will sell Donnarumma if their £53m asking price is met.
No official offer has been put on the table as yet but the Italian publication says that Chelsea and Liverpool have both expressed their interest in signing the teenage stopper this summer.
Chelsea are on the market for a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois as the Belgian international has just one year left on his deal and has been tipped for a move back to Spain having failed to agree terms over an extension.
However, it looks like Liverpool are in pole position to sign Donnarumma as the report says the players intermediary agent has made contact with the Reds to offer them the chance to sign the Italian star.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to sign a new number one this summer as Simon Mignolet is set to leave after losing his first team place while the future of Loris Karius is in doubt after he made two costly errors in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
