Man Utd Confident Of Signing £75m Star As Reds Eye Big-Money Double Swoop
Manchester United remain confident of signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld as the Red Devils look to bring in at least two big-money signings
There is plenty of Manchester United-related gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the Red Devils linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are confident of signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld…
Manchester United remain confident of signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld as the Red Devils look to bring in at least two big-money signings this summer, according to various reports.
Jose Mourinho has been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far with third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant and highly-rated full-back Diogo Dalot the only further additions other than Brazilian international Fred – who’s the only one of the trio expected to push for a regular first team place this season.
However, Mourinho knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if they’re to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season and BBC Radio Manchester journalist Bill Rice claims United are looking to sign at least two more top class players.
Rice believes United are targetting a centre-back and a wide player before the window closes on August 9th with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea attacker Willian two of Mourinho’s prime targets.
The BBC journalist also says United could still pull-off a marquee signing if the opportunity comes up and suggests the Manchester giants would jump at the chance of landing Gareth Bale if he leaves Real Madrid.
Rice is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“A commanding central defender and another hardworking wide player are the areas manager Jose Mourinho will look to strengthen, with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea’s Willian among the names in the frame.
“Don’t rule out a statement signing too, United – having opted not to pursue re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo nine years after he left the club for Spain – would surely be near the front of the queue if Gareth Bale also decides to leave Real Madrid this summer.”
Willian could prove difficult because Barcelona are being linked with the Chelsea attacker so it will be interesting to see who Mourinho can get his hands on but a new central defender is also on the agenda.
Alderweireld has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and the Metro claim United hoped to wrap-up a £50m deal after holding talks with Tottenham before the World Cup but baulked at the north Londoners £75m valuation.
The Belgian international has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave for just £25m next summer so understandably United don’t want to overpay but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known to be a tough negotiator.

However, the Independent, via the Metro, claim that United remain confident a deal can be reached to sign Alderweireld given his contract situation and the fact he fell out-of-favour under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
We’ll have to wait and see how things progress but it looks like Man Utd are going to be busy during the final weeks of the window as Mourinho tries to bring in at least two new faces before the start of the season.
