Liverpool Plotting Ambitious £35m Move For Two Youngsters
Liverpool FC are returning to Ajax for players following Suarez’s success at Merseyside. Liverpool are planning to sign two prodigies at Ajax, Christian Ericksen and defender Vertonghen.
The Merseysiders have good relations with the Dutch club following the £23m transfer of Luis Suarez between the two way back in January and will hope that it stands them in good stead when they attempt to steal two more of their players away from Amsterdam. CaughtOffside.com are claiming that Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen are the two men in question and they are prepared to spend the requisite funds to secure that pair.
19-year-old Eriksen has shot to stardom over the past twelve months with a series of impressive displays at club and international level since graduating to the senior Denmark set-up. A man of the match display in a friendly against England further showcased his talents and the player who was once rejected by Chelsea on trial has emerged as a key target for Liverpool. Eriksen himself has been quoted as saying that he would turn down a move to Liverpool to stay at Ajax with only Barcelona capable of tempting him away from his current employers. However, money talks and if Liverpool were to offer favourable terms there is a feeling at Anfield that the player can be talked round.
Their pursuit of Vertonghen looks like being no easier. The versatile defender is wanted by Premier League rivals Arsenal who look like investing in their backline for the third consecutive season after singing Thomas Vermaelen in 2009 and Laurent Koscielny in 2010. Manchester United are also rumoured to retain an interest in the 23-year-old meaning Liverpool will most likely need to spend around £15m to get their man.
With Eriksen valued at £20m, the Anfield cliub will have to splash out the same amount that they did for Andy Carroll – a cool £35m – if their shopping trip is to be successful.
