Real Madrid want to sign 2 huge Premier League stars this summer
News from Spain is that the Los Blancos are looking for Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes in the summer transfer window.
News from Spain is that the Los Blancos are looking for Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes in the summer transfer window.
And Manchester United could face a huge uphill battle in July to retain their top talent.
It has been a hugely disappointing season for United, but Fernandes is one of few to emerge with credit in the bank for his performances.
Despite his leadership coming into question from some quarters, the midfielder’s eight goals and nine assists have dug Ruben Amorim’s side out of several holes throughout the campaign.
With the likes of Bellingham anchoring the midfield as an attacking option, those with Real Madrid tickets think that Fernandes will be an ideal fit in the middle, with years of experience around him.
The exit from United also comes when United is cash-strapped, with new Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe revealing that the club is running out of funds.
Real is also willing to pay a £ 90 million offer for the Portuguese international.
Fernandes Saga
The Spanish giants are said to have sent scouts to watch Fernandes this season and consider him a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.
And it could be a busy summer for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who also appears close to agreeing to a deal to bring Trent Alexander Arnold to Bernabeu when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season.
Hearing both of these announcements has made everyone with Real Madrid tickets quite excited for July. The fans understand they need a complete squad against heavyweights in La Liga.
Fernandes, meanwhile, signed an extension to his United contract only last summer which now runs until 2027 with the option of a further year.
While United will be reticent to part ways with their club captain despite their financial woes, previous comments made by the 30-year-old may provide some clues as to how Fernandes feels about leaving Old Trafford.
When signing his new deal last summer, Fernandes was understandable that United would not yet be challenging for the Premier League title.
However, the midfielder was insistent that he wanted to see the club be brave in the transfer market to improve the quality of the squad.
‘The club knew that I wanted to compete with the best teams. They knew that we needed to improve the team. And I think we’re doing that,’ Fernandes told United’s official website back in August.
‘Obviously, I said to them: “I don’t need you to promise me that we’re going to win the league.” Because no one can promise that.
‘But at least we will have a team to compete and be competitive through the season, to try to achieve silverware and to compete in the highest levels.
‘I think the club is doing that. It’s trying to bring people in to get more players with quality in the team and to get more competitive, [so everyone is] fighting for your place.
How would Bruno Fernandes fit in
While adding a player of Fernandes’ quality to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad would no doubt strengthen Real, it’s perhaps unclear where he would fit in.
Jude Bellingham has made the No.10 position his own, while Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni are just some of the other options already available to Real further back in central midfield.
Fernandes’ versatility means he would no doubt fit into whatever role was asked of him, but at 30 years old, a fee of £90m does feel steep for a player who may not be an automatic starter in a Real side already overflowing with quality.
‘But my first choice was always to stay at the club. It was not even demands, but the things I wanted to see: the club going forward, [so] I could see a future on that.’
However, with United languishing in 13th place, Erik ten Hag long since sacked and few summer signings hitting the ground running, it’s unlikely that Fernandes will view this season as one of great progress for the club.
Mbappe and Vinicius Junior in Hot Water
Four Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, are being investigated by UEFA for alleged “indecent conduct” during the Champions League game at Atletico Madrid.
On Thursday, UEFA, European football’s governing body, said it appointed a disciplinary inspector to study the unspecified allegations at the round of 16 games on March 12. The case also involves Antonio Rudiger and Dani Ceballos.
Any ban would force a player to miss Madrid’s game at Arsenal on April 8, the first leg of the quarterfinals.
Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals after the shootout against Atletico. Rudiger scored the decisive spot kick and led teammates in an exuberant dancing run around Atletico’s home field.
In a similar case prosecuted by UEFA at the European Championship last year, Madrid player Jude Bellingham was given a one-game ban suspended for a one-year probationary period.
Bellingham scored a stoppage-time goal for England to level a round of 16 game against Slovakia when he gestured his hand towards his crotch. England went on to win 2-1 in extra time.
UEFA disciplinary judges found Bellingham guilty of “violating the basic rules of decent conduct” and fined him $32,400.
Trent Transfer Coming Soon
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer is one of the most followed by almost everyone who buys Real Madrid tickets.
The transfer was rumoured since September 2023, and it looks official now that Liverpool has not given him a new contract. The fanfare at Madrid are elated.
Real Madrid are in talks over finalising the signing of Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer.
Discussions over the protracted transfer are ongoing as the Spanish side looks to secure the England international before the start of next season.
Multiple sources close to the negotiations have told BBC Sport that while a deal is still to be fully agreed upon, work towards completing the transfer is reaching the closing stages—though nothing has been signed yet.
Alexander-Arnold is in the final three months of his Liverpool contract and is free to discuss a move abroad.
Real have made the 26-year-old a priority target this summer, according to sources close to the situation. The Spanish club has been tracking the player for close to two years.
Alexander-Arnold has spent his entire career at Anfield, coming through the academy to make more than 300 appearances for the club.
He has won every major trophy while playing for Liverpool and is the club’s vice-captain.
