Mbappe Gets #10 Shirt at Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé will wear the No. 10 jersey at Real Madrid this season, switching from the No. 9 he wore in his debut campaign with the club.
Kylian Mbappé will wear the No. 10 jersey at Real Madrid next season, switching from the No. 9 he wore in his debut campaign with the club, a source confirmed from the club.
The #10 jersey has now become available after Luka Modric announced his departure from the club, following 13 years of service with Los Blancos.
Over the last decade, Modric went on to provide new energy to the shirt, giving promise and reason for all the fans with Real Madrid tickets.
Even in his final years at the club, he was phenomenal in every game, giving his best.
He now leaves as a club legend and passes the number to their superstar, stinging Kylian Mbappé.
Mbappé also wears No. 10 with the France national team, and it had always been his plan to take that number at Madrid once it became available.
Mbappé, though, was prepared to spend another season with No. 9 if Modric had extended his contract for another year, a source added.
Mbappé had an impressive individual season with Madrid following his long-awaited move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The 26-year-old scored 31 goals in LaLiga to finish as the competition’s top scorer. He also eclipsed the 33 goals Cristiano Ronaldo scored in his debut season with Real Madrid across all competitions.
When Mbappé first arrived, the fans with Real Madrid tickets were sceptical about whether he had the potential to reach his best.
Mbappé’s journey in his first season was challenging, as he struggled to find his form.
And the fans also know that the best is yet to come.
Four of those goals came in finals: the 2-0 win over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, the 3-0 victory over Pachuca in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, as well as the defeats to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercopa.
However, Mbappé still faced criticism from some quarters, as Madrid failed to win a major trophy, having also finished second behind Barcelona in La Liga and lost to Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Mbappé struggled to make an impact at the recently concluded Club World Cup in the United States, having been hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis that kept him out of action during the group stage.
While he returned in the knockout rounds, Madrid’s participation ended with a chastening 4-0 loss to Mbappé’s former club PSG in the semifinals.
David De Gea’s Move to Real Halted
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has stated that he will only reveal details of his failed move to Real Madrid once his career is over, but believes that things happen “for a reason.”
De Gea, now at Fiorentina, was set to join Madrid from United on a permanent move on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2015, but the deal collapsed because the paperwork was not filed in time.
The praise for De Gea’s skills was admired by both fans with Real Madrid tickets and the management, but was seen as a great replacement for Courtois; however, it isn’t working out.
In the aftermath, each club appeared to blame the other for the failed move. When asked about it this week, De Gea told Italian media outlet Cronache Di Spogliatoio: “I will speak about all of that when my career is over. When things don’t happen, it’s for a reason.
“It was close, but the transfer wasn’t completed… Personally, it went well because Manchester is my home.”
De Gea moved to United in 2011 from Atlético Madrid and won the 2012-13 Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He went on to lift the FA Cup in 2016 and won the Europa League in 2017. De Gea also celebrated Carabao Cup wins in 2017 and 2023.
The former Spain international left United after his contract expired in 2023, having made 545 appearances for the club.
He then took a one-year sabbatical before joining Fiorentina as a free agent in 2024.
“It was one of the best years of my life,” De Gea said of his time away from football.
“That sabbatical year did me a world of good, both mentally and physically: I was feeling a bit jaded. I felt it was time to stop and come back stronger, and it went well.
“I indeed had offers from other English clubs, but in my heart, it was impossible to play for another club.
“I only wanted to play for United because it’s the club where I developed, where I’ve been for most of my career, and I’ve had a very good career there. I also had offers from other countries.”
De Gea, 34, kept 11 clean sheets in 42 appearances for the Viola last season.
He recently signed a new contract with Fiorentina, which will keep him at the club until June 2028.
Vazquez Leaves Madrid
Lucas Vázquez, a key player for Real Madrid during one of its most successful eras, is concluding his tenure with the Spanish powerhouse.
The club and the player announced that he will not be returning for another season.
“I’m leaving Real Madrid, but Real Madrid will never leave me,” Vázquez said on social media. “Wherever I go, I will proudly say that I had the honour of playing for the best team in the world. Thank you for joining me on the most beautiful journey of my life.”
“Real Madrid would like to express our gratitude and affection to Lucas Vázquez, one of the great legends of our club,” it said in a statement.
Vázquez is one of the winningest players with Madrid, having helped the club capture 23 titles, including five Champions Leagues and four in LaLiga. He made 402 appearances, playing primarily as a right-back but also as a forward, attacking midfielder and contributing off the bench.
“Lucas Vázquez represents in an exemplary way the values of Real Madrid, which has made him one of the most loved players by our fans,” club president Florentino Pérez said.
“The figure of Lucas Vázquez symbolises the hard work, perseverance, humility and winning spirit that are essential for success in this shirt. He is a player who has the affection and recognition of all Madridistas. Real Madrid is and always will be his home.”
Vázquez joined the club’s youth academy in 2007, at the age of 16. After a season on loan at Espanyol, he made his debut with Madrid’s first team in 2015.
Real Madrid tickets for the new season are now available for purchase.
