Manchester United have played some attractive football lately and after stringing together one of their best runs in recent months, they are now in pole position to secure qualification into the Champions League for next season.
Having said that, they remain intent on bolstering their squad and a striker’s signing could be on the cards with Joshua Zirkzee expected to depart Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
According to Sports Boom, Man United have identified Barcelona marksman Robert Lewandowski as a potential option for next season on a short-term deal amid his impeding free agency from the La Liga giants later this year.
The former Bayern Munich ace has been in fine form this season with 16 goals and three assists in all competitions, but has kept his future open in spite of a renewal offer from Barca coming in recent weeks.
Lewandowski a terrific back-up option
Robert Lewandowski is set to turn 38 in August this year, so in all fairness, he is not going to be a primary number nine for Manchester United, more so considering Benjamin Sesko has started to find his feet at the club.
Nonetheless, the Polish international has all that it takes to be a worthy back-up option and use his experience to make an impact off the bench in the Premier League matches, or use his limited starts every now and then to deliver the goods.
Lewandowski remains lethal in the box and in what are the last few years of his career, he has been in fine form in the Champions League, as well as in Bundesliga and La Liga, while he also might entertain a short-term challenge in the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see if the player is prepared to leave Barcelona but remain in Europe, or prefers joining a club in the Middle East or the United States after enjoying an illustrious career playing the highest level of football.
