What Liverpool Need This Transfer Season
It’s perhaps Liverpool’s most important transfer window in their recent years as they seek redemption following a disappointing 6th place finish in the EPL this season.
Positions in need of assessing
Every Liverpool fan knows that our left flank really needs some attention, with the left wing and left back really needing some more experienced and talented players. Another slot that needs some work on is the right wing role, with Liverpool lacking in an out-and-out winger.
Yes, Hodgson, bought some ‘Fulham’ players and brought them to Merseyside, but as the saying goes, “It’s Liverpool FC for crying out loud”, we certainly should be able to cope through the tough times. You can even say that in terms of players, we nearly have exactly the same, except the Suarez and Carroll combo swap for the lone Fernando Torres.
We Need More Out and out wingers
So I guess you guys know where this is heading. First thing I would like to say is, personally, I think that whichever way you see the next paragraph, I want Liverpool FC to keep Dirk Kuyt. He is very versatile and is brilliant for the big occasions. He grabs goals and works unselfishly for the team.
What I want to see Liverpool FC play next season is with more crosses, and if you look at the stats (I don’t have any with me right now), I’m quite convinced that Liverpool have scored fewer than most this season from crosses.
You’ve got to have more than one method to break down defences, not just playing through the middle or pouncing on that odd loose ball. Having a good crosser with pace on either/both wings would be a benefit as than basically more chances can be created and more goals can go in.
And the fact is that we have plenty of players capable of scoring more than a goal or two from headers given the good crosses. In Andy Carroll, Kyrgiakos and Skrtel we have a trio whom can steer the ball very well, along with giving it power at the same time. Yes, Kyrgiakos and Skrtel aren’t attackers, but if you really want me to bring Rodriguez and Meireles into this, I will.
Liverpool Need… To Clear Out
Liverpool need to sell/let go players who aren’t contributing anything to the team cause right now. Joe Cole, Milan Jovanvic and Konchesky (who is in fact not with Liverpool as of now) simply must be offloaded in the summer.
Liverpool are on the up, and you’ve gotta replace your players on the down. Clearing out would give Dalglish more money in the summer to work with. Moreover, there’s no real point keeping players who are simply going to be warming the benches all season long. You need players whom are going to challenge to fight for the first XI places if not get those spots.
The Dillema: Do we need an attacking or defensive left-back
The best teams have different styles of operating their full-backs, with Inter Milan deploying the attacking right back in Maicon along with Manchester United in Patrice Evra, whilst you have European giants Barcelona normally deploying (recently recovered) left back Eric Abidal.
So the question is now, do we need that attacking or defensive edge to the side? I’ll leave that as my question to you readers, so would you prefer the attacking or defensive left back and even if you already have an opinion on this, who you would like to see at the left-back slot next season? The best replies can even make it into my next post.
