Brazilian Striker Claims Tottenham Approach
Internacional striker Leandro Damiao has revealed Tottenham have made an approach to sign him, but the player will reject a move in favour of staying in Brazil
The summer transfer window is open and Football Talk will bring you all the latest Tottenham transfer news doing the rounds in the papers. Today, a Brazilian striker claims Spurs have bid for him.
Internacional striker Leandro Damiao has revealed Tottenham have made an approach to sign him, according to talkSPORT.
The report claims that Spurs have been tracking the 22-year-old for some time and failed with a £14m bid last summer, when then boss Harry Redknapp was on the look-out for a front man.
Emmanuel Adebayor eventually ended up at White Hart Lane but wage demands are preventing a permanent deal from being agreed and it looks like this has forced Spurs in to an approach for Damiao once again.
The player claims he has a proposal from Tottenham on the table but has turned down the move at the advice of his club, and revealed he will now remain with Internacional until the 2014 World Cup.
“I’ve got Tottenham’s proposal, but Internacional thought I’d better stay,” he told UOL.
“I will try to reach the World Cup playing for Internacional. But have to wait for the window to pass and close.”
Damiao is quoted as saying by talkSPORT
The striker has scored 22 goals in 54 appearances for Internacional since breaking in to the side in 2010 and has forced his way in to the Brazilian national team set up, earning eight caps and scoring 1 goal so far.
But it seems Damiao will remain in Brazil meaning Tottenham’s search for a striker goes on.
