New Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen on £16m-rated Atletico Madrid striker Adrian, which could see Jermain Defoe leave White Hart Lane this summer
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Spurs are linked with a Spanish striker.
New Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is keen on £16m-rated Atletico Madrid striker Adrian, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that Spurs are looking to rejuvenate their attacking options this summer and AVB has identified Spanish international Adrian as a potential addition.
The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive first season with Madrid, scoring 19 goals in all competitions including 11 in 18 matches to help Atletico lift the Europa League title.
This form has alerted Villas-Boas but Spurs would have to meet the players £16m release clause as Madrid are reluctant to sell. Instead, they are hoping to renegotiate Adrian’s contract to make him commit his long-term future to the club to fend off interest from potential suitors.
Should Adrian arrive at White Hart Lane, it could spell the end of Jermain Defoe’s stay at the club with the Mirror claiming Reading, QPR and Sunderland are interested in the striker.

Defoe only started 11 games last season, but still managed to net an impressive 17 goals. AVB is understood to have reassured the England frontman that he’s in his plans for next season, but the bookies have slashed their odds on the 29-year-old leaving this summer.
