Liverpool play Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday evening looking to keep alive their fading hopes of securing a top-four finish.
The Reds haven’t played since beating Zenit St Petersburg on the 21st of February but after crashing out of the Europa League on the away goals rule, Brendan Rodgers side will now be fully-focused on finishing the Premier League season as strongly as possible and seeing if they can make a late push for the top-four.
The Merseysiders currently sit eight in the table, a full 10 points off fourth-placed Chelsea, so will need something special during the final run-in to secure Champions League football next season.
Liverpool have drawn their last two away league games and will face a Wigan side who dispatched of Reading in impressive fashion last time out and have only lost one of their last six league games against the visitors.
Roberto Martinez men moved out of the bottom three with victory last weekend and can pull away even further with another positive result tomorrow.
Team News
Wigan are hoping to welcome back defender Antolin Alcaraz after he returned to training following a long spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.
Emmerson Boyce is also back in contention after making his comeback from a hamstring problem but Ryo Miyaichi is still short of fitness after being out for 3 months with an ankle injury.
Brendan Rodgers is sweating on the fitness of striker Daniel Sturridge and a late decision will be made over his availability. Other than that Rodgers has no other injury concerns apart from long-term absentees Fabio Borini and Martin Kelly.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Despite their eventual exit from the competition, Liverpool were superb against Zenit at Anfield and if they play with that intensity against the Latics we can see an away win this weekend. However, it’s likely to be a low-scoring, tight game, and we predict the Reds to just edge it. Wigan 0-1 Liverpool
