Tottenham Hotspur take on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon in what will be a huge game for both sides.
Spurs are still pushing for a top-four finish and head into the game sitting fifth in the table, just one point off fourth placed Chelsea and two off third placed Arsenal, and with their rivals not playing until Sunday they have the chance to leapfrog them with a win tomorrow afternoon.
Andre Villas-Boas men will be full of confidence following on from last Sunday’s stunning comeback win over Manchester City at White Hart Lane where three goals in the final 15 minutes saw the Lillywhites secure a vital 3-1 win.
Gareth Bale was at the heart of things once again, setting up the equaliser before sealing the three points with the third goal, and all eyes will be on the Welshman this Saturday.
Wigan on the other hand are desperate for points at the other end of the table with Roberto Martinez’s side currently sitting in the bottom three and in danger of being relegated to the Championship.
The Latics are three points off Aston Villa with a game in hand but their hopes of avoiding the drop were dented with a 2-0 loss to West Ham last time out so Martinez will be keen to pick up some valuable points this weekend.
Team News
Wigan welcome back Jean Beausejour for the game and he’s likely to come straight back in to the starting line-up. Antolin Alcaraz is out with a hamstring injury so Maynor Figueroa is likely to drop back into defence with Beausejour filling in on the left side.
Otherwise Martinez has no other major injury concerns and should stick with the side that lost at Upton Park last weekend.
Tottenham have received a huge injury boost with the news that Aaron Lennon has recovered from a knee injury and is fit and available to face Wigan. He’s expected to come straight back into the starting line-up with Clint Dempsey at risk of dropping out.
Jermain Defoe may also have played his way into AVB’s first eleven after scoring an excellent goal against City last week after coming off the bench. Emmanuel Adebayor should make way. Midfielder Sandro is out for the season while Younes Kaboul and William Gallas are still unavailable.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Wigan won the reverse fixture 1-0 at White Hart Lane earlier in the season so Spurs will be out for revenge as well as three vital points this weekend, and I can see the Londoners edging this one. Wigan 1-2 Tottenham
