Tottenham Hotspur welcome Manchester City to White Hart Lane this evening with both sides desperate to pick up a vital three points.

Spurs head into the game sitting fifth in the table and are now three points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool after they beat Everton on Monday night, so the north Londoners need a win to keep pace in the race for Champions League qualification.

City on the other hand can go top of the league with a win after leaders Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw at Southampton last night, while Manuel Pellegrini could find his side drop to third if they fail to pick up the three points and Chelsea beat West Ham, so it’s all to play for tonight.

Tim Sherwood has enjoyed an excellent start to life in Spurs the hot-seat after replacing Andre Villas-Boas and takes his men into tonight’s game off the back of a six-match unbeaten run.

However, they will do well to maintain that record as they face a City side that are also in devastating form having won their last seven league games and are unbeaten in 19 across all competitions.

Team News

Tottenham will be without the services of winger Andros Townsend and forward Erik Lamela with the duo missing training this week as they continue to work their way back from injuries.

The north Londoners have been boosted with the return of Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Paulinho and Sandro with the key quartet all in contention after coming through a friendly against West Ham last week unscathed.

However, Sherwood has hinted he may not rush them back too soon so they might be among the subs tonight.

Manchester City have been boosted by the news that striker Alvaro Negredo has recovered from a shoulder injury and is fit to start.

David Silva is also available after being rested as a precaution at the weekend due to a minor hamstring strain. However, James Milner and Javi Garcia are out through injury and join Sami Nasri on the sidelines.

Likely Line-Ups football formations

Key Man

Sergio Aguero: The Argentinean has continued from where he left off, scoring in his last two games following an injury lay off, and he will certainly be the man Spurs will need to keep quite tonight.

Predicted Score

Tottenham 2-2 Man City: City have found their feet away from home but are still susceptible at the back so we can see Spurs causing them problems and holding them to an entertaining draw.

Personally would take bentaleb out just due to inexperience. I would keep the back four as is. I would have vertongen as a holding midfield player with lennon on right, sandro and dembele in the middle and then eriksen on left with ade up front.
At least in the beginning to get a foot hold in the game. defensively a diamond formation like this of dawson chiriches and then vertongen just in front would make a solid defensive unit. This is increased as all solid defenders and have worked with each-other for a while. It would also give Dembele, eriksen, lennon the confidence to go forward when attacking knowing they have vertongen and the beast tucking in to cover. This could also be interchangeable with other players coming on like paulinho for either sandro or dembele etc with out it losing its shape. I also believe this has a better balance and as the game gets stretched will offer us a lot of counter attacking but also keeping us in a strong shape. Or not but I dont feel we can just go to free scoring Man City without working from a defensively solid base. Ball retention is key, not giving them any room on the ball, stifling them in the middle of the park and then hitting them on the break with our wingers like lennon with remarkable pace, just a shame we havent got lamela or townsend on the left. anyway just my opinion. COYS!!!!
