Ivory Coast International Admits He ‘Couldn’t Refuse’ Arsenal Move
Highly-rated Toulouse defender Serge Aurier has admitted it’s his dream to play Arsenal and couldn’t refuse a move to the Emirates if the opportunity came about
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us quotes from Serge Aurier.
Highly-rated Toulouse defender Serge Aurier has admitted it’s his dream to play Arsenal and he couldn’t refuse a move to the Emirates if the opportunity presented itself.
The Ivory Coast international has been impressing at Toulouse in Ligue 1 this season with his adventurous displays at right-back drawing admirers from all over Europe.
Arsenal have been strongly linked in recent transfer windows and with doubts continuing over the future of Bacary Sagna, the 21-year-old has been touted as a potential replacement this summer.
Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has sent his scouts to keep a close eye on the £6m-rated defenders progress, and it seems Aurier would jump at the chance at a move if we make an official offer at the end of the season.
In an interview with Foot Mercato, he revealed that it would be a dream to join Arsenal and admitted he couldn’t refuse the opportunity if it came about:
“Arsenal, I couldn’t refuse. You can ask any player if he would play at Arsenal, I think he would respond positively without hesitation.”
“It is a mythical club, we know that many French have marked the history of the club. It is sure that Arsenal is a dream.” Aurier told Foot Mercato.
This isn’t the first time that Aurier has publicly admitted his admiration of Arsenal as he’s openly admitted he’s a life-long fan in the past, and he even posted photos of him wearing an Arsenal shirt on his Twitter account last summer.
With Sagna’s contract set to expire in June and no sign of him penning an extension, it looks like we’ll be in the market for a new right-back this summer and Aurier would certainly be an interesting option. He’s a powerful full-back who likes to get forward so he’d fit in well to our style of play, but the main question mark would be whether he’s got the required experience to fill the boots of a player like Sagna.
My first choice would be for Bac to sign an extension and continue at Arsenal, but if he does go then I’d be happy for Aurier to come in as a replacement.
